Everyone got their spook on as Malagos Garden Resort celebrated Halloween last October 29, 2016 at the resort’s Corral Pavilion. The event called “Mga Handuraw sa Baul” was established to feature Philippine Music, Arts, and Horror on Hollow’s Eve through many different activities mounted for the entire celebration.

Guests enjoyed the activities and insights from the Art Symposium with Bong Perez who spoke about Mindanaoan painting, Jhoanna Cruz for Mindanaoan Writing, Drei Boquire for Digital Arts movement in Mindanao, and Angely Chi for the Ngilngig Films movement.

The Tabula Rasa Art Group Unlimited also took part of the celebration as they hosted the Live Painting at the resort’s Treeline Birdwatching along with the Pumpkin Carving Contest held at the resort’s pool side.

The night event began with a live poetry reading by Iyyah Sinarimbo, Galilea Ann Pagobo, Earl Olga Abellar, and Ria Valdez, proceeded by the annual Davao Ngilngig Filmfest 2016 featuring Chris Duco’s “OT,” Xana Patal’s “Pakbet,” Earl Autida’s “Madonna,” Joe Bacus’ “Happy Fiesta,” Ferdinand Mesias’ “Patentero,” Bem Di Lera’s “Achup Boulevard,” Bagane Fiola’s “The Camera,” and “Garbage Bag,” Earl Usi’s “Turog,” and Kenneth Dagatan’s “Sanctissima.” Guests squeal as entrants of the Costume Contest graced the stage with their best costumes. They also awaited in suspense as one by one the raffle draw winners were announced.

It was indeed a night of terror and delight paired with great food and good company as Davao artists Chud Festejo, Anne Mendoza, and Kevin Becira shared their musical talents and original compositions with the crowd along with one of Manila’s best beatmaker and producer CRWN and rapper Curtismith.

The night ended with everyone getting in on the floor of the Pavilion as some gathered around the bonfire and partied the night away with beats from the early 2000s. It was indeed a Happy Halloween. See you again next year!
