Birds of Malagos

With their voices, plumage patterns, colors, and antics, birds invite us to learn about them and the ecosystems they inhabit. If you start birdwatching, you'll start to pay closer attention to nature. The Malagos Garden Resort is known to be the home of various floras and faunas in the area. When we reopen our doors to the public, we are planning to bridge the gap between you and the majestic experience of bird watching. With many trees and plants in the area, the resort is a great bird watching spot in Davao City. To further translate the conservation and preservation of birds, the Malagos Garden Resort will soon be the first Davao birdwatching resort in the City. To give you a glimpse of what this activity has in store for you, here are some Malagos birds to look out for:

Southern Silvery Kingfisher. The southern silvery kingfisher is a species of bird in the family Alcedinidae that is endemic to the Philippines. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and rivers. Currently, they are being threatened by habitat loss. If you are fast enough, you can see them near the creek in the resort.

Black Naped Monarch. The black-naped monarch or black-naped blue flycatcher is a slim and agile passerine bird belonging to the family of monarch flycatchers found in southern and south-eastern Asia. It has a pastel blue shade and mostly can be seen on top of the trees in the resort.

Philippine Duck. It is quite rare to find a Philippine duck in a resort duck pond but this one you can easily see at the Malagos Garden Resort. The Philippine duck is a large dabbling duck of the genus Anas. Its native name is papan. It is endemic to the Philippines. As few as 5,000 may remain. Overhunting and habitat loss has contributed to its decline. It has a black crown, nape and eye stripe, with a cinnamon head and neck.

Barn Swallows. They can be found overhead and are a part of the migrants of 100k plus roost that spend the winter nights in Calinan. This is the most widespread species of swallow in the world. It is a distinctive passerine bird with blue upperparts and a long, deeply forked tail.

Coppersmith Barbet. Can be found in the rich forest of the resort, this is an Asian barbet with crimson forehead and throat, known for its metronomic call that sounds similar to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer.

White Breasted Woodswallow. Usually situated in the shadowed parts of the resort, this is a small passerine bird which breeds from the Andaman Islands east through Indonesia and northern Australia. The name "woodswallow" is a misnomer as they are not closely related to true swallows
Tagged by many as the best place to visit in Davao City, Malagos Garden Resort remains true in our advocacy to cater and rehabilitate wildlife and if possible release them back to the wild. Join us as we encounter more species along the way. What are you waiting for? Ready those binoculars because we are opening our doors very soon!
