Holy Week - A Time to Nurture Your Mind, Body and Soul
We’re officially on the nth day of home quarantine and with no possible end in sight, everything just feels like a big blur. We’ve only seen this kind of situation in films or in our history books and we never actually entertained the thoughts of such a nightmare turn into a reality. Yet here we are, caught unaware and still completely confused on how to move forward with our daily lives.
But that’s okay.
Before we overthink our situation, it’s important to agree that there is the slightest bit of hope stil, and that these anxieties caused by inevitable overthinking and nonexistent problems will somehow be over - maybe not soon, but it will be. Our government and medical frontliners are doing their best to address the real problems that are currently hammering our society. In return, we too must do our part to help flatten the curve, and help ourselves maintain our overall well-being.
Staying at home seemed fine during the initial phase but as the days turned to weeks and with the extension of community quarantine looming in, we have to admit that it’s taking a toll on our mental and spiritual health. The Holy Week for 2020 would have been a perfect time for us to take a break and go into a retreat with nature but with the current situation, we are compelled to spend this time of solitude at home.
But then again, we can still make the most out of this unexpected spiritual break. And the best part is that we can still get to spend it with our families and loved ones.
Here are some ways you can be psychologically and spiritually healthy during this time:
Meditate and Reflect: Attend the Holy Mass or “Praise & Worship” Online
Since the community quarantine began, public gatherings like holy masses have been called off due to the strongly imposed rule of social distancing. But with modern technology, different churches and religious organizations have pulled through with the availability of online webinars. Instead of going out to attend a Good Friday 2020 Holy Week Mass, we can now peacefully observe it on our desktop computers or mobile phones.
Nurture Your Soul: Know How Food Affects Your Body, Mind and Soul
Food does not only fill up one’s stomach, it also nurtures our mind and soul. That’s why it’s important to eat food that will nourish us holistically- mind, body, and soul.
Instead of spending extensive time on social media, make it a habit to use your internet more productively by looking for superfoods or easy healthy recipes that you can buy and cook at home. Make a list of veggies, fruits, and healthy protein fix which you think can help you keep a positive state of mind during this time.
