Celebrating Kadayawan at Home
Kadayawan 2020 is here! This is the most colorful and fun festival in Davao where you can see vibrant colored floral floats, taste a lot of good food, and enjoy watching all the street dancing activities in almost every corner. But more than all these activities, Kadayawan sa Dabaw is celebrated to give thanks for the bountiful harvest we have each year. This practice roots down from our ancestors. Back in the day, the ethnic tribes of Davao would come together to celebrate abundant crops, performing rituals that paid tribute to the nature gods. The term kadayawan originated from the word “madayaw” which means treasured or valued.
While we all have been looking forward to the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan, Floral float parade, and enjoy the bounty of Durian and mangosteen, we cannot do these for 2020. Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio issued Executive Order 25 cancelling all government-sponsored events and crowd-drawing activities, including those linked to the celebration of this year’s Kadayawan as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus pandemic. While this saddens us all, it does not mean we cannot celebrate Kadayawan anymore (responsibly and with social distancing, of course!).
Karaoke with the family. What better way to celebrate the best event in Davao than to sing your heart out with the family? Hit up those favorite songs and make Kadayawan celebrations more intimate and fun.
Bake the day away. With more and more people getting the hang of baking, why not learn your way through it too? The Malagos Homegrown Produce now has DIY brownie and cookie packs that just made baking easier for everyone. With Malagos’ signature chocolate as the base of every delight you bake, you will never go wrong. Call the kids and let them help you on this one too. Customize each brownie and cookie with ingredients you like to make it more you. Let’s admit it. The kitchen will be a little bit messier but it will be worth it. Promise.
Enjoy good food with the family. If you have been participating in various Kadayawan activities the last few years you’d know that while all are fun, it is also mostly crowded. For a change, why not cook up a great meal for the family and have a quiet intimate time where you can catch up on all the things you’ve missed for the week. Serve the kids’ favorite Italian pasta, toss up a healthy salad, or serve Humba with a twist-- the Malagos Homegrown meal kits got you covered. With all the ingredients pre-packed for your celebration, cooking will be a breeze.
Backyard Grill party. Get out of the house and get that fresh air you need. Set up a grilling station and have your burgers ready in no time with the Malagos Homegrown Produce’s DIY burger meal kit. You already have all the ingredients you need, simply grill the patty, assemble the burger up, and you are good to go. With great food and company, Kadayawan this year will be one worth remembering.
Before the onset of the pandemic, we remember most of you come to various resorts in Davao City. One of those has always been the Malagos Garden Resort. While it pains us to not be with you this year, we still cannot open our doors to you. More than anything, your health is our priority. Do stay home, stay safe, and let a part of us celebrate with you through the Malagos Homegrown Produce. Enjoy!
