Malagos Garden Resort’s Exquisite Gardens

Start from small steps. Don't fret about finding a suitable plot in your backyard, simply start a container garden anywhere you'd like. Plus this way you can ensure the soil is fertile and easily prevent weeds! First start small, then work your way up to a bigger garden. The Malagos Garden Resort came to be when Ms. Charita Puentespina, a farmer by heart and act, cultivated the land and planted various coconut trees, coffee beans, and bananas. It was from here that the luscious gardens of Malagos started. 

Shade and location matters. There are plants who thrive in shade, others need direct sunlight, others don’t. The number one rule in gardening is to do your research on any plants you want to take care of and never overlook each plant’s description. Hometalk member The Micro Gardener has a universal solution: Place your container garden on wheels or a trolley, so you can move it around in the event your selected spot doesn't get as much sunlight as you originally thought.

Innovate your way around the garden. Turn a clay pot into a hose guide, simply by putting a roughly one-foot length of steel reinforcing bar into the ground at the corner of a bed and slip two clay pots over it: one facing down, the other facing up. The guides will prevent damage to your plants as you drag the hose along the bed. Also, little clay pots make great cloches for protecting young plants from sudden, overnight frosts and freezes.

Carefully consider proper watering of plants. Give young plants plenty of water but avoid getting the plants wet. Wet leaves can easily lead to mold, rot, and a sick plant. As your sprouts grow, remember that the general rule of thumb is to give plants an inch of water per week. Be on the lookout for yellow leaves, that means you water your plants too much. 

Give companion planting a try. Companion planting is an excellent way to improve your garden. Some plants replenish nutrients lost by another one, and some combinations effectively keep pests away.
