A Malagos Merienda Cena

Malagos Garden Resort Merienda Food

The Malagos Garden Resort is known as one of the best buffet resorts in Davao. We proudly serve a local Davao buffet which showcases distinct flavors of the region. From our award-winning Malagos chocolate all the way to incorporating our famous Malagos cheese to some savory dishes, it was, undeniably, a food paradise. However, due to the onset of the pandemic, the Malagos Garden Resort had to close our doors. But we are coming back with even better flavors and offers from the kitchen. We have been brewing exciting dishes your way. To start it with, one of the resort’s new attractions, when we reopen our doors, is the Merienda Cena.

Filipinos are great lovers of food. This is why when it comes to good food, there’s always room for more. Our love for merienda can be traced back to our Spanish ancestors. Back then, La merienda is common among children and is basically an afternoon snack intended to give your kids some energy between lunch and dinner time. A merienda in this sense consists of a simple bocadillo, fruit, yogurt, or some sort of sweet bread or pastry. As kids grow up and start managing their own eating habits and schedules, the merienda is eaten with less frequency. Filipinos adapt no matter where they are placed. This is why as time passed by, a Filipino touch has been added to the merienda time. Filipino delicacies like kakanins are the common favorites and this is what Malagos will be offering. Paired with our proudly local chocolate, enjoy a gastronomic experience when we reopen our doors.

The well-loved “Ques.” Many people think that the only food you can barbecue are pork, beef or perhaps chicken but in the Philippines, food on sticks is taken to a totally different level. From the banana que which is a skewered ripe banana with caramelized sugar to Turon which  is banana + nangka (a fruit) wrapped in thin wrapping called lumpia wrapping and then fried and caramelized. These are the go-to choices of most Filipinos when it comes to an afternoon snack.

The porridges. Who says eating porridges can only be done if you are sick? The kids’ favorite: Champurrado, a chocolate rice porridge served in a bowl with a hearty amount of milk made from our all time favorite Malagos chocolate, Arroz Caldo which is a salty rice porridge with bits of chicken, pepper and other spices, and so much more in store for you.

The traditional snacks. Biko- a sticky rice cake with caramel toppings, Siopao- steamed buns with pork, chicken, or beef filling, and Puto- steamed rice cakes with cheese toppings are some of the most common Filipino choices when having a merienda.

Merienda has been integrated into the Filipino culture. Even in small things like this, we still strive to maintain our tradition. For a buffet and dining resort in Davao City that gives you a one of a kind experience, make sure to visit the Malagos Garden Resort when we reopen our doors to the public. It is sooner than you thought and trust us, we cannot wait to serve you again!
