Tourism Trends Post Covid-19

Many industries have been severely affected by the pandemic. One that took some of the hardest hit is the travel and tourism industry. Travel and quarantine restrictions coupled with tight budgets and constant fear of our safety have significantly affected tourism. According to an article by Becky Ridgley in Here Mobility, “By the end of 2020, international tourism is expected to decline by 80%, resulting in up to $1.2 trillion in lost revenues. Additionally, an estimated 100 million tourism and travel and 25 million aviation jobs are at risk.” The matter is getting more serious by the day.

There is no doubt that the onset of the coronavirus in all parts of the world will change the way we travel. Travelers are now looking for ways to maximize their experiences while minimizing the risk of catching the virus. To give you an overview of the top tourism trends post Coronavirus, we have rounded up a list of some to look out for.

Traveling locally. International flights that are not of importance are temporarily banned from most countries. This is with the intention of keeping the people safe. Not to mention, the lack of feeling secure and safe (despite constant reminders that it is) in airports will most make tourism gear towards the domestic market. This is the time for unknown jewels in each country to shine and increase exposure to more people. Less frequently visited tourist destinations may benefit from the demand for less crowded places.

Outdoor is the way to go. After months of being cooped up in our houses and for health and security reasons as well, people now lean to the idea of an outdoor adventure. Here in our City,  most Davao tourist destinations are one we often spend with nature. More travelers will now opt for destinations in nature as this form of tourism will give ample space for social distancing while taking into account the discovery and connection with nature which for the past few months, any of us have been missing.

Micro-holidays can become the new normal. Unlike before when we take long days off work due to an international trip as a reward to ourselves, this may be the time when most of us embrace the concept of brief and short-lived vacations. Taking into account the impossibility of long-distance trips, the typical big annual trip we usually have may now be spent closer to home.

Heritage and culture tourism is the next big thing. One thing that we all share during this pandemic is being a step closer to our roots. A more closure of sorts with ourselves after months of silence at home. This is why heritage and cultural experiences may gain the spotlight once tourism re-opens again. This means an increase in the interest of museums, restaurants, history tours, and other local sites.

After taking all these into consideration, one of the must-visit places when making a list on “where to go in Davao” is the Malagos Garden Resort. Known as one of Davao’s best nature resorts, reconnect and rediscover nature with us. See you soon!
