The Roots and Heritage of the Malagos Garden Resort

Malagos Garden Resort

The Malagos Garden Resort’s history is rooted in deep love, passion, and respect for our lands. Our founders, Roberto Puentespina and Charita Puentespina bought their first farm in 1963 located in the foothills of Mt. Talomo. From here, Ms. Charita Puentespina, a farmer by heart and act, cultivated the land and planted various coconut trees, coffee beans, and bananas. After which, in 1977, she began nurturing and growing orchids in the land. In 1988, it was incorporated to what it is now. It has four main production operations: cut flower production, cut foliage production, Orchids and pot plant production, all the way to ornamental and landscape plant production.

A few years later and this led to the  Malagos Garden Resort, an agri-ecotourism destination that has opened our doors to each and every one of you since 1994. Through the years, we have grown and changed with you. But our goal remains the same: to give you an experience refined by nature. Ultimately committed in our call to environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture, the resort has state-of-the-art educational attractions such as the Malagos Chocolate Museum and the Museo de Mariposa.

Malagos Garden Resort is the very first property in the Philippines and the 39th in the world to be certified in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Business and Properties of Audubon International, a worldwide environmental organization based in the USA. In 2017, we were also the first to open a Chocolate Museum here in the Philippines. Paired up with a Chocolate Laboratory that lets you make your own decadent creations, most of you were delightfully surprised with what we have to offer. We made sure that with us, you will also get to interact with our wide variety of flora, fauna, and wildlife.

However, with the onset of the pandemic, we had to temporarily close our doors. Your safety is our utmost priority. In order to keep afloat and make sure that our local farmers get by, we had to shift gears for this year. As much as it is important for us to give you a refined experience with nature, it is equally important for us to take care of our local farmers. We started from the initiative of one local farmer and have been growing with the help of other local farmers since then. With this, the Malagos Homegrown Produce budded. In an effort to keep you safe at home and to make sure we, along with our local farmers get by, we introduced our fresh, homegrown produce online.

From a highland resort in Davao City to an online platform of farm-fresh produce, Malagos signature products, potted herbs and plants, even all the way to your baking needs, Malagos has it all for you. Simply head on to the Malagos Homegrown Produce website and order what you need for the day.

When we do open our doors again and you ask yourself what to do in Malagos Garden Resort,  we hope the first thing you do is enjoy the abundance nature has to offer and bear in mind that we could not do so without our local farmers. The past few months have not been easy but your support kept us going. Thank you for letting us spend another year with you. Though it is a little unconventional than what we are used to, it is always a  pleasure to serve you.
