Fresh Vegetables Vs Supermarket Vegetables

Fresh vs Frozen Fruit and Vegetables — Which Are Healthier?

Malagos has been known for serving fresh food, farm-to-table. We are strong advocates of the farm-to-table movement. We source all our ingredients from our own farm and garden. However, noticing the difference of having to eat fresh farm-to-table vegetables and vegetables from the supermarket is difficult. In most cases they would look and even taste alike.

Fresh fruits from the Puentespina Farm are picked at peak ripeness, when they are the most nutritious. Once harvested, the vegetables are often washed, blanched, cut, and frozen within a few hours. Fruits are not blanched since it will affect their texture. No chemicals are added to produce before freezing.

While it is true that freezing vegetables or fruits is not very favorable since vitamins are lost during the process of freezing. This especially follows when they are frozen for more than 2 days and at the freezing temperature compared to a chilling temperature where no ice is formed but just the right temperature is regulated to keep its freshness.

Fresh fruits and vegetables from our farm are the food that we can only trust on providing the most nutritious food there is to serve. It is like the idea of taking care of a cat with all your heart. You know how much you value your cat because of all the personal effort and time invested on it. This has the same idea on how the fruits and vegetables on our farm are.

The value of our products are so invaluable that we would want to share it to everyone! We become proud of our hard work and how much of a beauty we have produced. Malagos Garden Resort And Chocolate Museum has shown a way that even our chocolates are produced fresh from tree to bar. Schedule a guided tour about how our chocolates are made in this tree to bar chocolate experience.

Supermarket vegetables are stored in a different way. If our farm has the goal of processing our produce to the most nutritional product, supermarket vegetables are processed to have the longest life span that a produce can be.The goal is to make the vegetables look as fresh at it could be for the longest time. This is achievable but the produce will reduce nutrients.

The trade of supermarket vegetables may look good however, 3 days to 12 months ago these fruits were not ripe by any chance when they were picked. This method may not follow all products that were harvested but that’s how it is. Picking the not so ripe fruits or vegetables will help increase storage time if they have to be stored or transported in a long period of time. In that case, it hasn’t reached its full nutrient potential.
